On Friday, gas station chain Circle K will reduce the price of gasoline by 20 cents and diesel fuel by 8 cents at its gas stations throughout Estonia, the company reported to BNS.

Terminal justified its action by the fact that one of the market participants is committing fraud with bio-obligations on the Estonian wholesale market.
In June this year, the Central Criminal Police and the Department of Environmental Protection announced that, as part of a criminal case they had opened, they were investigating the fact that the fuel company AS Olerex provided false information to the tax and customs authorities in order to evade compliance with biofuel requirements. provided for by the Liquid Fuel Law.
Under the Liquid Fuel Act, fuel retailers are required to ensure that at least 7.5% of fossil fuels sold to consumers in a year are renewable fuels, i.e. biofuels.
Last summer, the Department of Environmental Protection concluded that Olerex was unlikely to be able to successfully comply with this requirement within a calendar year. The department has repeatedly informed the company about this. However, as of December 20, 2022, Olerex’s biofuel compliance was only about 1%.
