From Aiways to BYD, an armada of manufacturers from China are showing their fangs. The ban on thermal engines represents a great opportunity for them.

It’s a huge wave. Not yet a tidal wave. Riding on the takeoff of the electric car market, Chinese manufacturers and battery manufacturers are accelerating or arriving in force in Europe. The European Union’s ban on heat engines in 2035 is a tremendous opportunity for them. In 2020, Aiways was the first Chinese start-up to introduce an electric vehicle to the European market, the U5 SUV.
BYD, Dongfeng (Forthing brand), SAIC (MG brand), Leapmotor, Geely, CATL… At the IAA Mobility show which is being held this week in Munich, they represent 40% of the exhibitors. They thus come to hunt on the lands of the German giants that are BMW, whose headquarters with four vertical cylinders are located in Munich, Volkswagen and Mercedes.
