What is the reason for the drastic measure that merchants have taken?

The merchants explain that the sit-in will take place because the municipality has abandoned them in paying a mortgage that weighs on the market; fact that led the merchants themselves to settle the debt. The complainants allege that this debt was generated by the municipality of La Victoria itself in 1995.

Then they accepted the Privatization Law and this year they completed the payment, a million-dollar debt that would belong to the Victorian commune. Given the payment that the merchants themselves have made, the municipality would need to transfer the market so that they become the formal owners of the Fruit Market.

Regarding this request, notarized letters have been sent to the municipality to complete the Privatization Law and transfer the property to them, but so far they have not received any response from the authorities of La Victoria.
