PORTLAND, Ore. — The 36th annual AIDS Walk Northwest, held on September 9, 2023, proved to be a resounding success, raising more than $250,000 in funds for the Cascade AIDS Project. This remarkable milestone will further aid the organization’s mission of raising awareness, offering resources, and ultimately striving to end the HIV and AIDS pandemic.

The 1.8-mile walk, in its longstanding tradition, saw an impressive turnout of participants who were eager to make a positive impact in the fight against the devastating disease. The funds generated will greatly contribute to supporting numerous programs aimed at educating communities, promoting prevention and early detection, and ensuring those affected receive the necessary care and resources.

The Chief Financial Officer for the Cascade AIDS Project, Jessy Baros Friedt, highlighted the significant progress made in raising awareness and improving treatment efforts since the 1980s. Despite these advancements, she emphasized the organization’s primary focus on achieving equity for all individuals affected by HIV and AIDS.

Baros Friedt stated, “HIV is still around us, and people who have access to care are able to live full thriving lives. But if you don’t have access to care, then you’re left behind. So we’re here to make sure that no one gets left behind.”

In addition to the walk, the event featured various attractions and activities to engage participants and create a sense of community. Live music performances, food trucks, and after-parties hosted at local LGBTQ+ bars provided a vibrant atmosphere throughout the day. Participants were also given the opportunity to receive a free Mpox vaccine and undergo free HIV testing, further promoting proactive healthcare and prevention.

The success of the 36th annual AIDS Walk Northwest is a testament to the unwavering dedication and support exhibited by the community. With each passing year, the event continues to bring together people from all walks of life, demonstrating their commitment to raising funds, awareness, and empathy for those affected by HIV and AIDS.

The Cascade AIDS Project extends its heartfelt gratitude to all participants, sponsors, and volunteers who contributed to the event’s success. Their generosity and passion bring hope to countless individuals as the fight to end the HIV and AIDS pandemic persists.

As the event came to a close, it left participants and organizers inspired, motivated, and ready to continue making a lasting impact.
