Tomorrow – September 8will be Day of national mourning for the victims who died at the floods in Tsarevo municipality on September 5, 2023, the cabinet decided. Two men and two women lost their lives in the disaster. Before the start of the government meeting, the prime minister and the ministers honored their memory with a minute’s silence.
Two days after the flood, life in the affected villages is gradually recovering. “Now is the time to try to analyze in depth what are the reasons for what happened. And let’s make sure that we are better prepared the next time we have such a natural disaster,” Prime Minister Academician Nikolay Denkov said before the meeting of the Council of Ministers today.
Tomorrow, by order of the Prime Minister, a temporary interdepartmental expert commission will be formed, which will carry out an inspection of the state of the infrastructure and the causes of the distressed situation along the Southern Black Sea coast. Its chairman will be the Deputy Minister of Environment and Waters Petar Dimitrov, representatives from the Ministries of Environment and Water, Regional Development and Public Works, Agriculture and Food, the Road Infrastructure Agency, the Directorate for National Construction Control, as well as from the regional administration of the Burgas region and from the municipal administrations of the affected municipalities. If necessary, the chairman of the commission will be able to attract representatives from other institutions and organizations to participate in its work.
Within three days of the issuance of the order, the relevant ministers, the heads of the departments, the regional governor of the Burgas region and the mayors of the affected municipalities must notify the Prime Minister and the chairman of the commission about their representatives in the commission. Its first meeting will be held within three days of the expiry of this period.
Within 14 days of the first meeting, the committee must present a report with findings and proposals for corrective actions, including amending the regulations, if necessary.
The control over the execution of the order will be carried out personally by the Prime Minister.
