Taxes: the French middle classes are rather well off in Europe

Are the French middle classes being crushed by taxes? On a European scale, they have no reason to complain, according to a recent study carried out by four economists from the IFO – a research institute attached to the University of Munich.

These researchers compared the economic situation of these households, in 2019, in the 27 countries of the European Union as well as in the United Kingdom. The middle class is defined, as proposed by the OECD, as having a disposable income, after social transfers, of between 75 and 200% of the national median income.
