Avoiding products containing this substance can help reduce the risk of cancer.
The most significant addition to the list is haloacetic acids. These acids have carcinogenic potential and are sometimes byproducts of water disinfection processes. The US Department of Health and Human Services has highlighted six specific haloacetic acids that have been linked to cancer: bromochloroacetic acid, bromodichloroacetic acid, chlorodibromoacetic acid, dibromoacetic acid, dichloroacetic acid, and tribromoacetic acid. The inclusion of these substances emphasizes the need for future changes in water disinfection practices to ensure public safety.
It is essential to note that not everyone who is exposed to cancer-causing agents will develop cancer. The risk of cancer varies from individual to individual. However, adopting a healthy lifestyle and avoiding known risk factors can significantly reduce the likelihood of developing cancer.
