Christians fail to cite Jesus as a temporal reference

The advance of political correctness has caused repercussions, also among Christians, impacting the way in which some even cite historical events, conventionally divided between before and after the birth of Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah.

According to the Gregorian calendar, mostly adopted by the West, human history has a time frame, which is the birth of Jesus. Therefore, it is common to see in literary records references to the symbols BC and AD, which mean, respectively, before Christ and after Christ.

Recalling this, pastor and theologian Renato Vargens criticized the way some believers have been referring to it. “Unfortunately, many Christians stopped using AD – after Christ – preferring to use the expression ‘after the common era’”, wrote the pastor on social media.

Using an expression that has become a linguistic fad among those who consider themselves defenders of social causes and identity, Vargens explained that “in fact, woke believers chose to be politically correct since speaking before or after Christ can offend non-Christians. A mockery, you know?”

Ideological indoctrination

The attempt to banish the birth of Jesus Christ, and consequently His name, from the historical time frame has also been considered by the Education Department of the former government of João Dória (PSDB), in São Paulo.

At the time, the Department of Education sought to justify the measure, defending the use of the expressions AeC (before the common era) and DeC (after the common era).

“This is a description of the division of the timeline, from before Christ and after Christ. We made a change in the name, it is used in some writings, some literature, but the Department of Education, in its materials, decided that the acronym AeC will be used, which means ‘before the common era’. The ‘common era’ is what we know as ‘after Christ’ […]it’s the same division”, said a teacher.

After the negative repercussion of the proposal, however, the government backtracked and did not adopt the change. Find out more below:
