There will be only one candidate. The LR mayor of Cannes David Lisnard will return for a second term as president of the Association of Mayors of France (AMF) which recorded only one list on Monday for its November congress. “Regarding the presidency of the association, only one candidacy has been submitted, that of David Lisnard,” announced the AMF in a press release, while the contenders had until Monday to come forward.

Barring any major surprises, the game is therefore set for the outgoing, at the head of the AMF for three years and the only one in the running for his re-election which will be formalized at the next congress, from November 20 to 23.

Rising Republican figure

As announced at the end of August, the mayor of Cannes submitted “a union list representative of the geographical, demographic and political diversity of municipalities and intercommunities”, adds the AMF, specifying that “no other list has been submitted” .

Rising figure of the Republicans, David Lisnard, 54 years old, will once again team up with the irremovable PS mayor of Issoudun André Laignel, 81 years old and first vice-president of the AMF since 2008. The two local councilors had already formed an alliance in 2021, winning over the centrist list led by the UDI mayor of Sceaux Philippe Laurent, supported by part of the right and the Emmanuel Macron camp. An unprecedented dissidence in the long history of the AMF, which thus reconnects with its unitary tradition while remaining embodied by a right-wing elected official.
