Homeland Today: The Al-Hassa Youth Association for the Samer, in cooperation with the Tafila Governorate Culture Directorate, organized a group of cultural activities represented by the Fourth Al-Hassa Festival for the Samer, an announcement ceremony for the book Jurf Al-Derawish, A Desert Story…and a Forgotten Railway, and the opening of exhibitions of pictures of the railway and the town of Jurf Al-Derawish between the present and the past, and an exhibition Pictures of Samer Al Jordanian.

The activities that were held in the square and hall of the local council in Jurf al-Darawish, today, Tuesday, were part of the activities of Al-Hasa, the Jordanian City of Culture for the current year, under the patronage of the Acting Secretary General of the Ministry of Culture, Dr. Maher Nafsh, and in the presence of the Mayor of Al-Hasa, Khaled Al-Hajjaya, and the President of the Union of Charitable Societies in Tafila, Amer Al-Khawaldeh. .

The Director of Tafila Culture, Dr. Salem Al-Faqir, during his speech at the festival, in the presence of the notables of Al-Hasa, Jurf Al-Darwish, and community events, stressed the importance of the festival, which came within the framework of the directorate’s keenness to highlight and perpetuate the popular performing heritage, pointing out that the Samer heritage is one of the components of popular folklore in the Tafila region and other areas. The countryside and valleys of the Kingdom, as an authentic, committed Jordanian artist, traveled the world participating in many Arab and local festivals, having his pioneers and admirers.

He said that the festival came to connect the present with the ancient past and revive it, and to transmit it to the generations in its true and honorable form, especially in the midst of the great technological boom that created a major rift between us and our history, which carries within it many of the Jordanian state system, while the festival included Nabataean poetic poems and folkloric passages. It was presented by Maan, Al-Risha and Al-Hindawi folkloric bands.

During the festival, the book Jurf Al-Dervishes, A Desert Tale and a Forgotten Railway, was signed…an inscription of images and texts, which defines the Jurf region and its history…and narrates details of its history linked to the Great Arab Revolt and the role of the railway as a carrier of trade and passengers and the creation of commercial movement in past historical periods, just as the book depicts the most prominent… The problems and issues facing the town by referring to various historical and journalistic sources.

Dr. Al-Faqir pointed out that the author and authors of the book, journalist Samir Al-Marayat and journalist Khaled Al-Qatatsha, were able, through the chapters of the book, to present important aspects of the history of Jurf Al-Darawish and its train station, as this region, with its historical diversity, did not receive the attention of writers and authors.

He pointed out that the photo exhibition, which was held within the activities of Al-Hasa, the Jordanian City of Culture, focused on aspects of the heritage character of the Jurf Al-Darwish buildings, including the old train station that was built during the Ottoman era.

Al-Qatatsha pointed out the exhibition of pictures of the Jordanian Samar, which is considered a Jordanian heritage, as Jordan succeeded in including the art of the Samar as a performing art on the Representative List of the World Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in accordance with the 2003 UNESCO Convention.

He added that this art is an authentic form of Bedouin singing inherited in the Kingdom, and is distinguished by its prestigious status, in terms of its spread and acceptance at the popular level, and in terms of the time space in which it is performed.

On the sidelines of the festival, an exhibition of traditional industries, crafts and popular foods produced by women of the local community in Tafila and women’s charitable organizations was also held.
