Thiruvananthapuram: Gana Gandharvan KJ Yesudas’s 82nd birthday today. 82 young singers will perform Yesudas’s 82 songs in Thiruvananthapuram today. However, due to Kovid’s threats, the Kollur Mookambika temple visit on his birthday was canceled this time as well. Yesudas is currently in the United States. He was born on January 10, 1940.

Second consecutive birthday without reaching Mookambika

This time too he could not visit the Kollur Mookambika temple on his birthday but his friends came to the temple to pray for him. Yesudas, who is in the US, had canceled the trip due to the persistent threat of Omikron. For the second year in a row, the birthday visit to the temple has been canceled for more than half a century.
His friend Kanhangad Ramachandran reached Kollur yesterday with a prayer for Yesudas. He said he would pray in the presence of the Goddess this morning and sing a hymn for Dassette.

Gana Gandharva’s birthday celebrations have been held in front of the Mookambika Temple for the last 48 years. On his birthday on January 10, Gana Gandharva KJ Yesudas and his family will visit the Kollur Mookambika Temple in any part of the world. From 2 pm to 10.20 pm on Monday, 82 singers from the younger generation will sing immortalized songs sung by Yesudas in an eight-hour, 20-minute megawab stream.

Culture Minister Saji Cherian, Swaralaya Chairman N Krishnadas, Bharat Bhavan Member Secretary Pramod Payyannur, Swaralaya Secretary TR Ajayan, storyteller Ashokan Charuvil and cultural activist Karivellur Murali will deliver the birthday message. Gananjali will reach out to the audience through various Facebook pages aired by Bharat Bhavan and Palakkad Swaralaya and “Mazhamizhi Multimedia”.

Digital library

The car shed where KJ Yesudas lived when he was studying at Swathi Thirunal Music College in Thiruvananthapuram has been preserved by Bharat Bhavan. Work is underway to convert the Yesudas Digital Library there. The library will mark the life of Yesudas. A research center will also be set up.
