London BP boss Bernard Looney resigns with immediate effect over past relationships with colleagues. The oil company announced on Tuesday in London that CFO Murray Auchincloss will take over the chairmanship of the board on an interim basis. The Financial Times had previously reported on the impending departure.

“Looney informed the company today that he had not been fully transparent in his previous statements,” BP said in its statement. He did not fully disclose relationships with colleagues.

BP veteran Looney drove the transformation of one of the world’s largest oil companies into the age of post-fossil fuels. Recently, however, he had withdrawn some of the most ambitious goals and increased spending on oil and natural gas again. Looney was appointed BP boss in early 2020.
