Even before leaving, Novak Djokovic had told the Australian authorities the medical reasons for his lack of vaccination, that is, that he had already contracted Covid. The tennis player’s lawyers underlined this at the opening of the hearing at the Federal Court in Melbourne. Thus began the last, and definitive, act of the tennis champion’s legal battle with the Australian authorities: Djokovic wants to stay in the country, play the Australian Open and chase the 21 Grand Slam. The Canberra government, on the other hand, reaffirms the right to reject the sample: entry into the country is allowed only to those vaccinated against Covid-19 or to those who exhibit valid medical reasons for not doing so.
After his visa was revoked upon his arrival, the Serbian champion was transferred to a hotel used as an immigration center in Melbourne. Here he spent his last four nights.
