In the wake of his death Antonis Karyotis in the port of Piraeus, the delivery and acceptance ceremony of the Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy took place, with the new minister, Christos Stylianidesto receive the baton from Miltiadis Varvitsiotis.
Mr. Stylianides thanked his predecessor, stating that they have known each other for years and have worked together on difficult missions in the OSCE, in the Mediterranean.
Earlier, Christos Stylianidis was sworn in by the Bishop of Oreon Filotheos, before the President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou and the prime minister Kyriakou Mitsotakis.

In his statements during the ministry acceptance ceremony, the new minister referred to Greek shipping, stressing that it is the great strength of Hellenism.
“This ministry is the image of Greece to the outside world“, he stated while saying that our islands are among the most beautiful in the world and that they should be helped and strengthened to become stronger.
Referring to the recent bad weather that hit Thessaly, he said that the country is going through difficult times, stating that it is an event that has shaken us all and created so many problems.
“All Greeks together, regardless of party and ideological position, should see how we will work so that may the next day find us both united and effective“, noted Mr. Stylianides and added: “From this ministry, we will help as much as we can. The prime minister is the helmsman and we as soldiers should help each one from his post”.

For his part, the outgoing minister wished good success to his successor and thanked the officers of the port corps for all this time. “I always feel like a man of the sea and I will always have confidence in the people who act and operate in the maritime field,” he said.
Finally, he pointed out that he believed and believes that “the sea for Greece is the way in which it faces its problems, expands its influence and strengthens its global presence and its national economy”.
