World Economic Meeting has named Fabio Panetta as the new president of the Payments and Market Infrastructures Commission of the Bank of International Settlements (BIS).

In this way, the future president of the Bank of Italy will be at the head of the body in charge of setting standards for payments, negotiation, dispute resolution and stock market infrastructure for the next three years.

Panetta will take office on November 1, the same day he will become Italy’s central banker. Thus, he will replace the deputy governor of the Bank of England, Jon Cunliffe, who held it since January 2020.

Separately, the chief executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Eddie Yue, has been appointed chairman of the board of central bankers of major emerging markets. Likewise, Bank Indonesia Governor Perry Warjiyo’s term as head of the Asian Consultative Council has been extended by one year.
