Both the protocol and the stamp are voluntary, not mandatory. The optional measure should help facilitate the safe reopening of tourism in time for the summer season, improving the EU’s reputation as a tourist destination, even during the Covid-19 pandemic.

For the Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton, “the Covid safety mark will help tourism businesses to have safety procedures before the summer season, thus increasing the confidence of travelers, residents and workers of tourist facilities”.
