BUTEMBO – A dizzying increase in the price of fuel has been observed since the beginning of this week on the Butembo market. In less than three days, the liter went from 3,000 to 4,000 Congolese francs. A situation which has a negative impact on the socio-economic life of the population in general and particularly that of resellers and consumers of this product. The latter request the urgent involvement of the competent authority in order to stabilize the price.

Some dealers accuse fuel importers of being behind this price increase. The increase which forces carriers to also increase the prices of races.

Gérard Saa Sita, one of the taximoto customers in Butembo, complains of the silence of the competent authorities who should find a solution to this issue.

At the service stations visited by our reporters, a liter of gasoline sells for between 3,400 and 3,500 Congolese francs, while at the resellers commonly known as Kadafi, the price has also climbed and amounts to 4,000 Congolese francs.

Some oil companies contacted justify this increase by the blockage on the Béni-Kasindi road following the collapse of the Hululu Bridge. An explanation rejected by the urban economic service. The urban head of the economy at the local level has already announced the arrest of certain economic operators who own service stations who are involved in this practice. Gerard Kayihembako also warns the resellers who take advantage of this amalgam before continuing that his team is already hard at work tracking down other recalcitrants.
