With the iPhone 15 series, Apple has introduced four new iPhone models. And like every year, many potential customers ask themselves: Is it worth it for me? Here you can find out who should definitely buy it.

It’s a tradition: Apple has unveiled its new ones every September since 2011 iPhones. And the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max actually bring a lot of innovations. Of course, not everyone should rush to the store straight away.

iPhone 15: a worthy upgrade?

Compared to last year, all models have been significantly upgraded. The most important innovations are the new USB-C port, a significantly improved camera in all models and the A17 Pro, a new processor reserved for the Pro models that brings with it an enormous leap in performance. The new iPhones can all finally be charged with the industry standard, take better photos than their predecessors and, in the case of the Pro model, can even play video games in console quality.

Apple didn’t skimp on anything else either. Even the entry-level models now offer the Dynamic Island, which offers numerous additional functions (you can find out more here). All devices offer more performance, and the new camera technology promises significantly improved photography and video recordings. iPhone 15: Who is the new model worth for?

Whether you should actually buy the devices depends largely on your own needs – and above all on the question of which device you are currently using. If you own an iPhone that is more than three years old, it is worth buying for almost any type of use. Every single one of the new iPhones offers a significantly better picture with the OLED screen, you get support for the modern cellular standard 5G, significantly improved cameras, a huge leap in performance and tons of other features that Apple has introduced over the last few years. Here even the basic model is a real leap, not to mention the Pro models.

Owners of an iPhone 12 or 13 can also easily consider an upgrade. The Dynamic Island provides a new experience of use, the camera and performance have greatly improved. With accident detection and satellite emergency calling, both of which Apple introduced last year, there are two additional strong emergency functions. It’s a shame: The emergency call function for car breakdowns has not yet been announced for Germany.

Especially those who want more space on the display will find the new models an attractive option: Since last year, Apple has also been offering its entry-level iPhone with 6.7 inches. The iPhone 14 Plus was already completely convincing in the test (you can find out more here). The iPhone 15 Plus represents a noticeable upgrade in comparison, but costs significantly less than an iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Owners of an iPhone model from last year have to be very interested in individual features to justify the purchase. Above all, USB-C, the better cameras and the A17 Pro, which is reserved for the Pro models, could be an incentive for some customers to buy. However, the upgrade is only really attractive for a very small minority.

iPhone 14 or iPhone 15?

Of course, the question always remains whether it really has to be one of the new devices. The previous models are all still sold by third parties, even Apple itself continues to offer the basic models of the iPhone 14 and even the iPhone 13. In fact, given the numerous innovations this year, it might be worth it for many buyers to opt for the new models.

An important factor here is the reduced prices: With the exception of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, all devices have become cheaper. The two entry-level models cost 50 euros, the iPhone 15 Pro even costs 100 euros less than its predecessors when it went on sale. The price of the iPhone 15 Pro Max remains the same, but there is twice the amount of storage at 256 instead of 128 GB.

Fans of the mini models are likely to be disappointed: Last year, Apple no longer offered an iPhone smaller than 6.1 inches. The last iPhone Mini comes from the iPhone 13 series. However, there could soon be a new option: According to rumors, Apple wants to switch to the design of the mini models for its budget model iPhone SE. A performance is expected for spring 2024.
