A tsunami in the homeland of the ball :: zerozero.pt

I was told one day that Portuguese Football must be very “fun” with so much controversy, feature films, sequels (the same subject, but in a style director’s cut), scenes not included and whatever your imagination can “invent”.

I replied that “fun” could be an acceptable adjective, but from the perspective of masochism – in particular, television.

Reactions to FC Porto-Arouca always referred to Spain, Italy, and sometimes France. Frankly, I didn’t find anything relevant in the British press about the game and its related aspects. I could be wrong but I didn’t find it.

I’ve seen, but in British stadiums like Stamford Bridge, situations that in our country would make for a more interesting script than the soap operas out there.

I believe I have found a response area for the entire tsunami installed. The book is called The European Game, by Dan Fieldsend. The author visited several Gyms and Facilities, generally inaccessible to the average fan. He says it is a book about travel, culture, society and their ways of life.

By not talking about Football itself, it is symbolizing a lot of what the game represents and why it is not replicable. In a society as violent as the North American one, social problems rarely arise. In Europe, clubs represent regions, identities: in short, Culture.

In the USA, my Lakers were from Minneapolis until the license was transferred to sunny California in 1960. The rivalries with the Bulls are a few hours away by plane. Simply put, North American franchises do not culturally or socially represent the regions in which they are located!

In conclusion: Southern Europe experiences the European game in a peculiar and emotional way that rules, punishments, a more cutting can mitigate, but never end.

All of us who love Football want our competition to improve and become more appealing. But what would become of Monday morning coffee conversations, now transferred to other spaces?

Better days will come. I don’t know when!

Maybe there for the 2030 World Cup, which should go to South America.
