It starts right away with an “abseiling”. It goes down 14 meters through a narrow crack in the rock through which a small waterfall cascades down. Chris Lemke checks the carabiner and climbing rope again, then lets me down. Standing on a rock, he secures me and I suddenly go down, meter by meter, with my feet on the stone wall. Suddenly the water splashes with all its force into my face, a cold, powerful shower rains down on me from above, and I intuitively swallow some of it. Then it continues. Another jerk, another splash of water, another jerk, finally the feet touch the ground again. Done, the first part of the adventure was a success. I look up, stick my thumb in the air. Lemke, my canyoning guide, smiles back. He also took photos with his helmet camera.
Canyoning is an action sport in nature, a lot of fun and mostly for men. About 80 percent of his customers are male and the vast majority of them are bachelor party participants, says Lemke.
