Marina Brusnikina’s first work as the chief director of the Russian Academic Youth Theater (RAMT) turned out to be predictably nostalgic and innocently sincere. A pro of literary editing and theatrical readings, Brusnikina remained true to herself. And the play “The House Stood Here” is built on the same principle as her best works – a simple and sincere conversation between the actors and the audience.
Only this time this conversation is based not on some literary work, but on the biography of the actors themselves. Absolutely self-sufficient texts require neither complex directorial techniques nor expensive scenery. The stories of the Ramtovites were put into a single structure by the playwright, master of theatrical documentary Andrei Stadnikov. On the theater’s website the genre is designated as “documentary performance.”
