The French economy is seriously slowing down. The end of the year will be gloomy. Economic activity should nevertheless increase by 1% over the whole year, according to Bercy. 2024 is harder to read. The Ministry of the Economy has just revised its forecast downwards, but is still targeting 1.4% next year compared to 1.6% previously. The European Commission’s forecast is lower, but not that far off at 1.2%.

The consensus of economists, however, is much less optimistic: in August, it expected +0.9%. And today, many experts are showing lower forecasts. “The end of the year is a little more resilient than expected. But the outlook for 2024 is more difficult. This led us to lower our projection by 0.2 points,” indicates Maxime Darmet. The Allianz Trade economist now expects +0.7%.
