In a relentless effort to effectively track and respond to influenza outbreaks worldwide, a network of prominent health professionals and organizations has joined forces. The REVELAC-i Network, comprising the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center for the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Control of Influenza, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), among others, aims to enhance global influenza surveillance and control measures.
Leading the charge are renowned health experts including John Barnes, Todd Davis, Rebecca Kondor, John Steele, Angie Trullijo, Dave Wentworth, Michael Jhung, Juliette Morgan, and Wilmer Marquiño. These professionals represent the CDC’s Influenza Division, National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, the South America Regional Office (Brazil), and several country focal points under the Pan American Health Organization.
The network combines the expertise of various countries in South America, promoting collaboration to tackle the challenges posed by influenza outbreaks. Some notable contributors include Estefania Benedetti and Andrea Pontoriero from INEI-ANLIS–Dr. Carlos G. Malbrán, Buenos Aires, Argentina, as well as Maria del Valle Juarez and Nathalia Katz from Argentina’s Ministry of Health. Additionally, Brazil’s Ministry of Health is represented by Walquiria Aparecida Ferreira da Almeida, Daiana Araújo da Silva, and Greice Madeleine Ikeda do Carmo, among others.
Chile is an active participant in the network, with key representatives including Marcela Avendaño, María Fernanda Olivares Barraza, Patricia Bustos, and Paula Rodríguez Ferrari from the Ministry of Health, Santiago. Paraguay’s Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare is represented by experts such as Silvia Battaglia and Marta Von Horoch, while Uruguay’s Ministry of Public Health is contributing through professionals like Natalia Goñi and Karina Griot.
The collaboration among these dedicated professionals aims to strengthen regional influenza surveillance, share knowledge and resources, and coordinate responses to potential outbreaks. By pooling their expertise, the REVELAC-i Network seeks to improve our understanding of influenza patterns and facilitate the implementation of preventive measures.
