Mohanlal and Mammootty wish KJ Yesudas a happy birthday. The two shared their greetings through social media. If Mohanlal had posted the caption ‘Happy Birthday to my beloved Dassette’ on Facebook, Mammootty’s greeting would have been with his picture with Yesudas. Today is Yesudas’ 82nd birthday.
Yesudas was born on January 10, 1940, in Fort Kochi, the son of Augustine Joseph and Elizabeth Joseph. As a child, Yesudas learned the first lessons of music from his father, who was a musician. He later studied at the Music Academy, Thiruvananthapuram and the RLV College of Music, Thripunithura. After passing the Gana Bhushanam, he participated in the audio test conducted by All India Radio but was not selected. At the age of 22, he got his first opportunity to sing in the film. Prem Nazir and his brother Prem Navas played the lead roles in KS Antony’s 1962 film ‘Kalpadukal’.
November 14 last year marked the 60th anniversary of Yesudas’ film singing. Yesudas’s birthday is in the US with a Kovid background. This year too, he had to avoid visiting the Mookambika Temple, which he used to visit regularly before his birthday. But his friend Kanhangad Ramachandran had reached Kollur yesterday for Yesudas. Meanwhile, Yesudas’ last Malayalam song was sung by Dileep in ‘Keshi Ee Veedinte Nathani’.
