BBVA celebrates the sixth edition of the Values Day, an annual event in which the entire Group’s staff reflects on what it means to be part of BBVA around the entity’s corporate values.

During the day, the more than 110,000 professionals that make up the Group have carried out a series of workshops and dynamics to internalize and live the corporate purpose and values as a lever for the bank’s cultural transformation. The president of BBVA, Carlos Torres Vila, has traveled to Galicia to celebrate this day with the employees of one of the entity’s main offices in Santiago de Compostela.

“Values Day shows us the good state of our corporate culture and the pride of belonging of our employees,” says Carlos Casas, global head of Talent and Culture at BBVA. For the sixth consecutive year, the financial institution has momentarily stopped its daily routine to work on the bank’s purpose: “to make the opportunities of this new era available to everyone.”

In this new edition, the Group’s more than 110,000 professionals have developed different dynamics to reflect on their personal purpose and connect with the purpose of BBVA and the team. “On this day we have been able to internalize the Group’s purpose, which is unique for everyone, and which gives meaning and a clear mission to personal work and that of the teams,” explains Casas. If in previous years the objective was to deepen behaviors or strengthen pride of belonging, activities for 2023 have focused on understanding corporate values as the compass that guides towards the purpose. “Employees have been able to work on their personal purpose and understand how it connects with that of the bank, and share it with their colleagues to create stronger connections,” he adds.

The staff has been able to participate in a tour of various digital and in-person activities to discover everything that connects them and drives them to generate opportunities in all the units and countries where BBVA has a presence. With retrospection exercises, the entity wanted to encourage conversations between the teams that facilitate their rapprochement and create new connections. The president of the entity, Carlos Torres Vila, has traveled to Santiago de Compostela to accompany the team of a branch in holding one of these workshops.

“Put very simply, corporate purpose is the idea that describes our contribution to society beyond the organizations objective of growing; is the why. Defining personal purpose is somewhat more complex because it is at the base of human nature, but we could get closer to its essence by explaining it as what matters in our lives,” explains the head of Culture. Although it is possible that there are differences between organizational and personal purpose, identifying both will allow each professional to connect, converge, and “understand that it is a necessary and beneficial objective for both organizations and the people who work in they”.

BBVA’s Values Day concluded at an event held in the Plaza de la Ciudad BBVA, the entity’s Madrid headquarters. The ‘blue tide’ accompanied Onur Genç, CEO of the bank, at the ViVa awards ceremony, which recognizes the work of employees for being an example of how corporate values are lived on a daily basis.
