Nicolás Petro Burgos, the eldest son of President Gustavo Petro, assured that the attorney general, Francisco Barbosa, is politicizing his judicial process and asked him to stop.

“Every time Prosecutor Barbosa has a public confrontation with my father, he always talks about my process in a threatening tone,” he stated on his public profile on the social network X.

“Mr. Prosecutor, depoliticize my judicial process,” added the former deputy from Atlántico, who is currently negotiating a preliminary judicial agreement with the Prosecutor’s Office, after being charged with illicit enrichment and money laundering.

Petro thus addressed Barbosa, who told W Radio that “the Prosecutor’s Office has this process (against Nicolás Petro) alive, nothing has cooled down.”

Barbosa pointed out that there will be results on the issue before the end of his term in charge of the prosecutor’s office.

His statements came after challenging President Gustavo Petro, who had ordered an investigation into what happened to the military in Tierralta (Córdoba).

“The investigative functions in this country are not in your head, but in the head of the Attorney General’s Office,” he warned him.

Nicolás Petro Burgos and his ex-wife Day Vásquez were charged for their alleged participation in the irregular financing of Gustavo Petro’s presidential campaign on the Atlantic Coast last year.

During the guarantee control hearing, the defendants’ defense indicated that they were willing to accept their responsibility in the scheme and cooperate with the investigation, in exchange for judicial benefits. In return, they were not sent to prison.
