In a frightening incident during Friday night’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees reliever Anthony Misiewicz was struck on the head by a line drive off the bat of Pittsburgh’s Ji Hwan Bae. The impact forced Misiewicz to exit the game immediately.

The incident occurred in the bottom of the sixth inning with two runners on base. Bae hit a blistering 100.6 mph liner up the middle, and despite a valiant effort to catch it, Misiewicz’s glove did not make it in time. The ball struck the left-handed pitcher on the side of his head and rolled into right field.

The New York Yankees quickly released a statement, confirming that Misiewicz was “alert and oriented.” However, as a precautionary measure, he was transported to Allegheny General Hospital for further testing. The full extent of his injury is yet to be determined.

The 28-year-old pitcher remained on the ground for several minutes, receiving medical attention from the team’s staff. Eventually, Misiewicz managed to stand up and made his way to a cart, pressing a towel against the left side of his face.

Ji Hwan Bae’s RBI single on the play tied the game at 3-all for the Pirates.

Following Misiewicz’s departure, Zach McAllister took over on the mound for the Yankees.

The situation serves as a chilling reminder of the dangerous nature of the game and the risks that players face on a daily basis. Line drives off the bat can travel at incredible speeds, leaving little time for a defensive reaction.
