Ports on the US West Coast (USWC) have seen an increase in their market share, after reaching a labor agreement with the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU).

For more than a year, as labor negotiations dragged on, USWC ports lost market share. However, some importers indicated that they began shipping cargo back to USWC ports before employers and the ILWU reached a tentative contractual agreement.

August market share for major USWC ports rose 3.6% from July to 41.9%, while major USEC and Gulf ports fell 3.3% to 43.1 %. He port of los angeles, historically the busiest in the US, handled 47,095 more TEUs in August than in July, an increase of 12.9%. Nationwide, the busiest port on the East Coast, New York/New Jersey, processed 24,089 fewer TEUs than in July, a decrease of 6.3%.
