“When will you finally wake up?”: The Philharmonic tweet

The Munich Philharmonic wanted to do everything right and go on tour by train. The trip to Berlin already went terribly wrong. They arrived too late, the radio broadcast was canceled – now the musicians are making it public, which the DB is now having even more difficulty with than with the timetable.

“Dear @DBBahn”: Not all of the daily DB complaint messages on X (formerly Twitter) are so friendly. This time it’s them Munich Philharmonic Orchestrawho are very conciliatory in venting their displeasure about being late.

On a Tuesday in September they wanted to take the train from Cologne to the Berlin Music Festival in a climate-friendly way as part of their season-opening tour. No problem, you would think, constant outgoing connections, about 4.5 hours drive. This was supposed to be manageable even with the long-standing delay, for which a buffer had of course been taken into account.

Should, could, should. Everything has been different on the railways for a long time. The trip also went differently than planned for the 200 participants (they performed Mahler’s monumental 2nd Symphony). Instead of starting in Cologne at 9:30 a.m., it only started three hours later due to three (in numbers: 3) canceled ICE trains and no information. The delays to Berlin totaled 4.5 hours.

We were on the road for ten hours and there has been no apology from the person responsible, not even when the malaise became known. The Berlin concert had to start 25 minutes late and the planned radio broadcast was canceled. Than then under Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla When the last Klopstock verse “To God will you be carried” was finally sung, Mahler’s “Resurrection Symphony” had somehow been exhausted and yet still gloriously mastered, but the Deutsche Bahn, they probably had all of the participants (and not just them) sent to hell again.

“Despite repeated negative experiences, we have defended and protected you, again and again. But you’re stabbing us in the back, letting us down. We can’t rely on you. We can’t do it anymore. When are you finally going to wake up?” the people of Munich then posted. No Answer. It seems that the railway has now lost even the last bit of communication ability in the constant daily chaos. Lufthansa will be happy. But actually it’s not any better.
