A 66-year-old man died on Sunday after being injured by a harpoon during an altercation on the island of Marie-Galante, south of the Guadeloupe archipelago, AFP learned from several sources.
The victim was “seriously injured in the chest with the presence of a foreign body”, explained the firefighters, themselves warned shortly before 1:30 p.m. and who found the man in “cardiac arrest” once on the scene, a road not far from a beach in the south of the island. A Smur doctor then declared the victim dead.

The Pointe-à-Pitre public prosecutor’s office indicated that she was hit by a “harpoon” as part of “a dispute” with another man “born in 1985” and suspected of having fired the projectile. If the victim is unknown to the services, the suspect has “some criminal history”, according to the same source. Suffering from “some injuries whose origin remains to be determined”, he was arrested, transported to hospital then placed in police custody at 2:10 p.m., the prosecution said.
Several witnesses must be heard to determine “the real motive” of this fatal altercation.
