The American Sepp Kuss won his first Grand Tour this Sunday, September 17 in the streets of Madrid. He won the 78th edition of the Vuelta ahead of his teammates Jonas Vingegaard (2nd) and Primoz Roglic (3rd). This is the biggest career success for the Durango native. Sepp Kuss had donned the leader’s red jersey on the evening of the 8th stage and he never took it off. The Dutch team became the first to win all three Grand Tours in the same season, following Jonas Vingegaard’s second consecutive Tour de France, and Primoz Roglic’s Tour of Italy triumph. Sepp Kuss is the fourth American rider to win a Grand Tour, after Greg LeMond, Andy Hampsten and Chris Horner. Lance Armstrong, seven times winner of the Tour de France between 1999 and 2005, and Floyd Landis, crowned in 2006 on the Grande Boucle, saw their victories withdrawn by the International Cycling Union (UCI) after being convicted of doping. Australian Kaden Groves won the last stage of this 2023 Tour of Spain.
