4.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded this morning

According to the Colombian Geological Service, a new earthquake was recorded during this early morning of September 18 in the northeast of the country. The earthquake occurred precisely at 5:02 in the morning and had the municipality of Toledo, Norte de Santander, as its epicenter.

The earthquake was located 23 kilometers from Cubará, Boyacá. Its depth was less than 30 kilometers, which is why it is classified as superficial by the Colombian Geological Service.

In September it shook regularly, as recorded by the Geological Service, which only last Thursday warned of the occurrence of four earthquakes of considerable magnitude on the same day.

The last earthquake of that day was the strongest, since it had a magnitude of 5.1 on the Richter scale and its epicenter was the town of El Cantón del San Pablo, in the department of Chocó.

According to preliminary information, the earthquake was felt in Cúcuta, Arauca and Bucaramanga. There are also reports on social networks that it was felt in Bogotá, Boyacá and Cali.

Comments such as “it was felt in Bucaramanga”, “in Cali I felt it” and “it was felt in Floridablanca” were published by Internet users on social networks.

Additionally, the tremor recorded a latitude of 7.19, as well as a longitude of 72.19.

Until now, the Risk Management authorities in the area have not reported any damage after the earthquake, however, they continue to monitor the situation at the epicenter site and its surroundings.

According to the Colombian Geological Service, during the early hours of this Monday, three more tremors were recorded in the country. The first was in Zapatoca, Santander, at 2:56 am, with a magnitude of 2.2.

The second occurred in Piedecuesta, Santander, at 3:02 am, with a magnitude of 2.2, and the last one occurred in Tufiño, located on the border of Ecuador with Colombia, at 3:37 am, and had a magnitude of 2.3 on the Richter scale.
