For decades, Germany was the icing on the cake in the European economy. Its pillars were great monetary stability with a minimum of inflation, a very efficient transport system, a high and stable internal consumption standard, a high standard of exports and imports and also a political balance considered unshakable, with alternation or combination between Social Democrats, Greens and Christian Unions, Bavarian Social and Democratic Unions in the rest of the country.
