Watan Al-Youm: The media spokesman for the Ministry of Water said that the first bracket, which consumes less than 6 cubic meters per month and pays a flat bill worth 218 piasters, will have its bill remain the same in 2024.
He stated that the increase on the first tranche, after the end of the implementation of the tariff restructuring plan (i.e., after the end of six years), will be on the flat bill by about one dinar and 7 piasters only, so that the price on the first tranche will become 325 piasters.
He pointed out that there is no difference between the monthly and quarterly bills in terms of price, as it is due to the amount of water consumed by subscribers.
He stated that the government currently covers about a large portion of the total cost of water, as maintenance and operation costs are very high, and the government subsidizes each cubic meter with a dinar and 80 piasters, which is expensive. However, the government will not stop supporting the sector even after the end of the plan period.
He said that the average annual increase will reach 4.6%, meaning that the increase will not exceed 40 piasters for every 10 dinar bill, and support for lower segments has been maintained.
He stated that the segment that consumes (0 – 6) meters of water per month will not receive any increase and will remain as it is at 2.40 dinars, while maintaining government support for it. As for the segment that consumes (7 – 12) meters of water per month and the value Its bill is 5.47 dinars, and there will be an increase of 5 piasters for every meter of water and 3 piasters for sewage, meaning that the total increase will be 48 piasters.
He added that the segment that consumes (13 – 18) meters of water will receive an increase of 5 piasters for each meter of water and one piaster for sewage, so that 84 piasters will be increased on the value of the bill, which amounts to 10.51 dinars, and the segment that consumes water (19 – 24) metres, 5 piasters will be increased for each meter of water and 3 piasters for sewage, so that 1.32 dinars will be added to the monthly bill, which amounts to 19.30 dinars.
He continued that the segment that consumes (25-30) meters of water will receive an increase of 10 piasters for each meter of water and 5 piasters for sewage, so that 2.22 dinars will be added to the value of the monthly bill, which amounts to 31.63 dinars, and the segment that consumes ( 31 – 42) meters of water, 18 piasters will be increased for each meter of water and 2 piasters for sewerage, so that 4.62 dinars will be added to the value of the monthly bill, which amounts to 62.5 dinars, and for the segment that consumes more than 42 meters of water per month. There will be an increase of 28 piasters per meter of water and 10 piasters on sewage, so that 9.18 dinars will be added to the value of the monthly bill, which amounts to 98.77 dinars.
He stressed that the goal of the plan is to achieve financial sustainability for the water sector, noting that the value of the bills collected from subscribers does not cover more than 50% of the total operational costs, and there is a large financial deficit that reached 286 million dinars during the year 2023.
He said that this plan would help develop services and reduce the water sector’s debt, which today has reached 2.3 billion Jordanian dinars.
