It was the last shot of the Popular Party facing the investiture of Alberto Núñez Feijóo. Although PNV has maintained cordial relations and has reached numerous agreements with the PP during democracy, the Basque nationalist formation will not support the popular leader in his inauguration. This is what Andoni Ortuzar’s people have conveyed to the PP in a meeting this Monday. Feijóo’s great hope to be president of the Government is fading. It was Cuca Gamarra and Aitor Esteban who held the meeting in Congress.

New cold water for a PP that has not given up until the end with the PNV despite receiving several rejections since we learned of the 23J election results. Esteban confirmed it at a press conference. Both spokespersons have talked about many things, but “there is no room” for a ‘yes’. Meanwhile, Núñez Feijóo met this Monday with his hard core in Genoa to analyze the support for the investiture, the position on co-official languages and on the act against a possible amnesty. At the moment the president of the PP still does not have those four supports that he needs to occupy the Moncloa.

Borja Sémper, spokesperson for the PP, said at a press conference that “the PNV has panicked and is not making the best decisions.” In Genoa, it is also still not confirmed whether Alberto Núñez Feijóo will participate in Sunday’s event that the PSOE has described as a “new photo of Columbus.” The meeting of the PP with the Basque nationalist right takes place just a few days after learning that Andoni Ortuzar met with Carles Puigdemont in Waterloo (Belgium). At that meeting they showed muscle by ensuring that they are decisive in forming a government in Spain.

The round of meetings ends with the matches

The PNV has received strong criticism from the PP and Feijóo himself. They accuse the Basques of being motivated by fear of the 2024 regional elections in which they may need the votes of the PSE to continue leading the Lehendakaritza. The Popular Party has thus concluded the political dialogue before the investiture debate on September 26 and 27. It only has the support of Vox, UPN and the Canarian Coalition.

ERC and BNG who declined the option of speaking with the Popular Party. EH Bildu were excluded by the PP from the conversations. After the round of consultations with the political parties, Alberto Núñez Feijóo will face businessmen and unions. This Monday he meets with the president of the CEOE, Antonio Garamendi.

Starting on Tuesday, the PP candidate will hold talks with the general secretaries of UGT, Pepe Álvarez, and CCOO, Unai Sordo.
