Junqueras considers the amnesty practically negotiated for an investiture agreement

Oriol Junqueras has implied that the amnesty is practically negotiated. The president of ERC has indicated that progress was already being made in the pact for the Constitution of the Congressional Board.

To date, the requirement that would have been agreed upon to make Francina Armengol president of Congress was the use of Galician, Catalan and Basque in plenary sessions, an option that has become a reality as of today.

Junqueras added that “that agreement already specified that all forms of repression had to end with all the necessary legal measures” which is why he urged Pedro Sánchez to comply with it in all its terms.

Junqueras has also addressed the Catalan independence supporters of Junts, whom he has asked not to take the negotiation “to the limit”, reiterating his position that the coordination of the independence parties would facilitate the negotiation with the PSOE.

Junqueras is convinced that if at this moment there was already an agreement “it already includes amnesty” and insists: “it is evident that the agreement must include amnesty” for all those “persecuted” by the self-determination referendum of October 1, 2017 .

However, and despite these statements, his colleague Gabriel Rufián in August stated that the Mesa agreement “did not talk about including the amnesty”, insinuating that it would be part of the investiture negotiation. The statement that the independentists published in Catalan in August, in the third point, speaks of a commitment to end the repression that includes an amnesty law. There is a second version in Spanish where the word amnesty disappears and is replaced by “necessary legal means.”

Today the PSOE distances itself from Junqueras’ words and says that it knows nothing about that agreement. Miquel Iceta stated: “I am unaware of this agreement and if it exists and was signed it must be public and known” while Raquel Sánchez called to ask Mr. Junqueras why he said that, “I cannot speak through Mr. Junqueras.”
