The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a weather warning warning of danger in relation to the heat wave which should spread across Brazil during the week. According to the agency, the scenario is expected to worsen from Friday the 22nd, with temperatures above 42°C in some locations. Maximum temperatures should exceed 40°C in areas of the Central-West and North regions, in addition to the interior of São Paulo, especially. In the capital of São Paulo, maximum temperatures above 35°C are expected from Friday, 22nd.

The agency also warns of the forecast of low relative humidity levels. This should lead to an increased probability of vegetation fires, mainly in the Southeast and Central-West regions. Despite the prevalence of dry weather, localized intense rainfall may occur. A stationary front will influence the weather in part of Rio Grande do Sul. Rainfall volumes in the region may exceed 150 millimeters. The meteorological danger warning is issued when temperatures exceed the historical average for the period by at least 5°C.

The June-July-August 2023 season had an average global temperature of 16.77 degrees Celsius, according to the European Copernicus observatory. The result was 0.66°C above the average for the period 1991-2020, which also recorded an increase in the planet’s average temperatures due to climate change caused by human activity. And higher – almost two tenths – than the previous record of 2019. July was the hottest month ever recorded in history, and now August has become the second, detailed Copernicus. Since April, the average surface temperature of the oceans has registered unprecedented levels of heat.
