FGR presents more evidence in the case of Public Looting

In order to continue demonstrating evidence against the case of Public Looting in Public Hearing, the Attorney General’s Office presented financial expertise.

According to the FGR, the financial investigations carried out in the case have determined that the former prosecuted officials planned a system to divert money from the State for personal use and that of their families.

“Also, it has been possible to detail the responsibility that the defendants had over the administration of public funds and how they took advantage of their positions to make use of them,” the Institution detailed.

The defendants are accused of diverting $351 million from the State for personal benefit, during the administration of former President Mauricio Funes.

The accused in this case are: the ex-wife of Mauricio Funes and former first lady of the Republic, Vanda Pignato, the former president of Cifco, Miguel Menéndez, known as “Mecafé”, the former Secretary of Communications, David Rivas; the former president of Banco Hipotecario, Manuel Rivera Castro. In addition, the former Chief of Accounting of the Presidency of the Republic, Rigoberto Palacios Panameño; the financial manager of the Presidency, Francisco Rodríguez Arteaga; Funes’ father-in-law, Juan Carlos Verdugo.
