Thomas Müller only made a brief appearance against Manchester United. The Bayern attacker still has reason to celebrate. He reaches a special mark.

München.

Thomas Müller had to watch for a long time against Manchester United, but he still had reason to be happy after the final whistle. The 34-year-old attacker from FC Bayern Munich was only the third player to break the 100-win mark in the Champions League. Müller celebrated this milestone last night in Munich’s 4-3 win.

“If you want to get a little melancholic and historical, that’s wonderful,” commented Müller. “If you look back, it was a really crazy long journey in time that I got to spend in the Champions League. But we’re not done yet – and I’m not done either.” That’s why this victory is also a “way station”.

Before Müller, only Portugal’s superstar Cristiano Ronaldo (115 wins) and Real Madrid’s goalkeeping legend Iker Casillas (101) reached the hundred mark. Against United, Müller only came on as a substitute for Harry Kane in the 87th minute, but he even had a shot on the post in that short time. Müller is the only professional who has played continuously in the Champions League since the 2008/09 season. (dpa)
