The 2023 edition of the Antenne vacances program ended on Friday September 19, 2023. The closing ceremony took place at the old radio house. For three months, the aspiring journalists became familiar with radio practice.

The Benin Radio and Television Office (ORTB) has opened its doors to young people wishing to pursue a career in the field of journalism. For 11 weeks, participants in the Antenne vacances program immersed themselves within the teams of Radio Nationale, Radio Bénin Alafia and Atlantic FM.

Prepare the succession

Every year, during the holidays, the ORTB trains around sixty young people and makes the dreams of these journalists and radio technicians come true. They receive theoretical and practical training in radio animation, musical programming, processing and dissemination of information as well as the technique of developing an antenna conductor and the subtleties of sound processing and mixing. These aspiring journalists mostly come from journalism schools and the university radio station Radio Univers. Some are linguistics students and must have prerequisites in sound recording and editing for technicians. “We hope to have succeeded in truly sharing our best practices with you for three months” confided the spokesperson for the trainers, Hermione Akpona.

The representative of the general director of ORTB assured that the public service media will always honor its mission of training quality succession

“I can assure you that the ORTB will continue to work towards public service by welcoming all those who, in the normal way, request our assistance for their training”noted project manager Michel Kindékon, representative of the interim Director General.

The director of National Radio congratulated the young learners. He hopes that they will be able to use these first rudiments to enter the profession and improve. “Now that you have practiced what you have learned, we are releasing you, in the hope that the party continues with other structures that will be happy to welcome you,” declared Maurice Mahounon, interim director of National Radio.

A ceremony full of emotions

During this closing ceremony, the recipients received their scrolls in recognition of their efforts. On behalf of all participants, Dana-Franck Djamagbo, spokesperson for the students, expressed his gratitude to their trainers for sharing experiences. They took the opportunity to present certificates of recognition to some of their supervisors.

As a reminder, this edition of Antenne Vacances started in June. The process of selecting participants for this program took place in several stages. After registration, the preselected candidates underwent a casting call, and those who were selected did the practice on the radio.

The best participants in the program will benefit from a three-month internship within the Office.
