LSU Tigers Football Player Greg Brooks Jr. Undergoes Surgery to Remove Brain Tumor

Louisiana State University (LSU) Tigers football player Greg Brooks Jr. recently underwent surgery to remove a large brain tumor, according to a statement released by his family. The surgery took place last Friday, and the family is now waiting for biopsy results.

Brooks, who serves as the starting safety for the LSU Tigers, began experiencing symptoms of potential vertigo and dizziness during the preseason and in recent weeks. Concerned about his health, the team decided to order an MRI scan, which led to the discovery of the tumor.

LSU head coach Brian Kelly shared this news during his weekly media teleconference on Wednesday. Kelly confirmed that the discovery of the brain tumor was directly linked to Brooks’ symptoms of dizziness. He explained, “Finally, we said that enough’s enough, and we got an MRI, and that’s when the tumor was located. The vertigo was just a symptom of what was obviously a larger issue.”

While Kelly visited Brooks in the hospital on Sunday, the player was still under heavy sedation, preventing them from having a coherent conversation. However, before the surgery, Brooks expressed a strong desire to return to play this year.

The family statement expressed gratitude for the medical staff’s care and the outpouring of support from the sports communities in Louisiana, Arkansas, and across the nation. LSU Football’s official Twitter account also posted a picture of Brooks with the caption, “All Love For 3,” referring to the number on his jersey.

Brooks, a Louisiana native, had played for the Arkansas Razorbacks for three seasons before joining LSU. He started 13 out of 14 games last season for the Tigers and played in two games this season.

As of now, it is uncertain when Brooks will be able to return to the field. LSU and Arkansas are scheduled to play at Tiger Stadium on Saturday, where the absence of Brooks will undoubtedly be felt. The LSU community and fans are keeping Brooks and his family in their thoughts and prayers during this challenging time.
