In the wake of the recent violent riot in Rosengård, Malmö, the police have declined permission for an upcoming public gathering in the area, citing concerns over public order and safety. The decision comes after a dialogue between the police and the event organizer, Salwan Momika, regarding a possible alternative location.

Rickard Lundqvist, the police spokesperson, expressed apprehension about the ability to ensure public safety at the proposed gathering and its immediate vicinity. “We see a concrete risk for the organizer, the public, and police personnel,” Lundqvist stated.

Salwan Momika gained notoriety in early September after burning a Koran on Värnhemstorget in Malmö. The incident triggered a violent riot in Rosengård later that evening. During the riot, cars and garages were set ablaze, and stones were thrown at the police.

In a related development, three minor boys suspected of involvement in the riot were apprehended by the police on Thursday morning. It is believed that one of the boys is responsible for setting fire to a garage, resulting in the destruction of 20 cars.

Furthermore, two individuals, an 18-year-old man, and a 17-year-old boy, were already detained prior to these recent arrests. They are facing charges of violent riot, arson, and sabotage against blue light operations.

Salwan Momika had been approached by the police regarding a potential change in location for the public gathering to ensure the safety of all parties involved. However, Momika expressed disinterest in relocating the event outside of Rosengård.

The police’s decision to deny the public gathering reflects their commitment to maintaining public order and safeguarding the well-being of both the organizer and attendees. It is hoped that alternative arrangements can be made to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for future gatherings in the area.
