A platform for combating fraudsters “Moshelovka” will appear in Russia

The All-Russian Popular Front (ONF) will launch a platform for combating fraudsters “Moshelovka” on May 21, Izvestia reported. The development will be presented at the Russian Internet Forum (RIF) on Friday.

The organizers of the platform told the publication that people who have become victims of scammers or received suspicious calls will be able to report this through the platform. Volunteers will process user messages, organize them and post information on new fraud schemes on the site. The victims of the scammers will be told where to go and what to do. Also, ONF volunteers and experts will transmit systematized information about cases of fraud to the Central Bank and law enforcement agencies.

Earlier, the Central Bank FinCERT reported that in 2020 the number of account fraud cases increased by 34% on an annualized basis, in monetary terms the growth was 52.2%, to 9.8 billion rubles. Most of the victims of fraudsters are people over 50, but recently the proportion of young people under 20 has begun to grow among the victims.

The share of money returned to victims was 11.3%, in 2019 – 14.6%. The center’s report says that in more than 60% of fraud cases, people themselves provide the scammers with the data they need to transfer money under the influence of social engineering.
