ANALYSIS – Renault admits that the future R5 will be sold for less than 30,000 euros, and not less than 25,000 euros.

25,000? 20,000? How low will the price have to go so that the electric car can be within reach of the middle class that manufacturers have lost sight of in recent years? Less than 25,000 euros is the amount promised by Citroën for its ë-C3 marketed at the start of 2024, and by Volkswagen with its ID2 planned for 2025. Less than 20,000 euros is the objective targeted in the indefinite future by the bosses of VW and Renault for future models.

But already, the Losange has revised… upwards its range for the electric R5, even if no precise amount has yet been disclosed. Interviewed at the end of August by the German newspaper AutogazetteFabrice Cambolive, the boss of the brand, no longer said “less than 25,000 euros»: «We are working hard to bring the R5 to market at a price below 30,000 euros. We want to demonstrate our competitiveness, particularly in the field of small electric cars.»
