Handball

There are few things that take my patience away in this life. Not that I’m a virtuoso. On the contrary, every day I fight against addictions. But, in my favor (or not) there are two facts: I’m slow to process things and I don’t like wasting energy on inglorious fights. Of the few things that arouse my anger, besides INTER on certain occasions, obviously, what They are prominent in the hall of provocations against my peace and they manage to set me on fire almost instantly. There are three of them: stupidity, laziness and bad faith (the intention, the burden… the clear intention to carry out a wrong act).

In this regard, I believe that there is nothing in football that has more power to provoke and is capable of leading a peaceful, urban citizen to curse a judge’s mother than the law, I mean, the offside rule and the ball-in-hand rule.

Did the rule become law? I believe so, because our “professional” commentators, the arbitration committee, the referees, the VAR… and all these people who seem to have been placed in their roles to sow discord exchanged a RULE with clear and objective instructions in law, that is, something that is subject to interpretation.

I’m not going to talk now about the law of offside and its validity, because I don’t want to discuss, for example, the advantage of an athlete’s butt being in front of or behind the imaginary line, poorly drawn by the video referees, to a player.

I want to focus exclusively on the law, I mean, the ball-in-hand rule. The arbitration committee reminds me of the little gentlemen who, even today, on payday, crowd the markets without knowing why to make their “ranch”. This is a legacy of the 80s/90s and its incalculable inflation, which at the end of the day left the newly received salary worth almost nothing.

Nowadays this only helps to increase the profits of supermarkets who, knowing this custom, raise prices at specific periods of the month. That said, I return to the law… I mean, the ball-in-hand rule. In the past, there was guidance that one should understand the player’s intention to stop the play with his hand to mark the infraction.

Unlike what we did when we played with friends, at least when I was a child, we kicked the ball into the opponent’s hand to make a mistake if we didn’t have any more resources. However, this rule was modified and honestly, there is no current rule regarding ball fouls in the hand not even a mention of “intentionality”… I repeat: THE WORD INTENTION DOES NOT EXIST!

What to FIFA it says?

“Touches the ball with their hand/arm when it has made their body unnaturally bigger. A player is considered to have made their body unnaturally bigger when the position of their hand/arm is not a consequence of, or justifiable by, the player’s body movement for that specific situation. By having their hand/arm in such a position, the player takes a risk of their hand/arm being hit by the ball and being penalised”.

My English isn’t perfect, but I don’t see anything that suggests the referee weighs the player’s intentions. Just “movement that assumes risk” and “unnaturally increasing body area”.

Already England The instruction is very clear:

If the ball touches the red area, it is a foul. That simple.

Now is it up to you? Why isn’t this the case in our league?
