Charline Vanhoenacker, at the A La Fontaine café, Paris 16ᵉ, September 14, 2023. JÉROME BONNET FOR “LE MONDE”

We should think, one day, of asking royalties from Charline Vanhoenacker. The Belgian comedian and journalist is now making her own “aperitif”. “Bistroscopie”, its new show – every Saturday at 7:15 p.m. on France Inter – may well pay more homage to Jacques Chancel, the father of “Radioscopie”, than to those thirsty for Monde, the concept remains the same: cooking a guest over a drink, pulling worms out of their nose in the relaxed setting of a drinking establishment. In this case, the A La Fontaine brasserie, located a stone’s throw from the Maison de la radio. A perfect place to meet. Chic local residents, quick to get excited about the France-Uruguay rugby match, are preparing to colonize the place. For its premiere, on September 2, Jacques Attali sipped… tea here. In turn, the watered sprinkler will order sparkling water. Then a beer for the photo shoot. Belgium has its duties.

Were those who feared they would no longer hear him on the microphone wrong to worry? Charline Vanhoenacker still occupies, and more than ever, the antenna of the leading station in France (seven million listeners), but differently. The half hour of « Bistroscopie” is thus added to the three-minute column that she continues to offer every Thursday to listeners of Nicolas Demorand’s morning show, and to the new format of her flagship show, “It’s still us! », changed from daily to weekly in extended format (two hours), which must now be called “Le Grand Dimanche evening”.

We remember the emotion caused, in May, by France Inter’s decision to put an end to the most impertinent program on the French radio landscape, after nine years of allegiance to laughter and political satire (from first under the name “If you listen, I cancel everything”, then “By Jupiter!”). The arguments put forward by the radio staff then made even the most austere detractors of the show sneer: audiences which are declining although they are still very high (1.25 million listeners), columnists who are absent more and more regularly to the detriment of“troop spirit”the risk of purring…

Names “to sleep outside”

It’s difficult, when you’ve made mockery an art, not to laugh at it in turn, even in retrospect. However, Charline Vanhoenacker prefers figures to irony: “The audiences communicated in mid-July show that we were ahead of “Les Grosses Têtes” [RTL] during the last quarter of an hour during the previous three months, she boasts. We never imagined that this goal would one day be achievable. “Les Grosses Têtes” have always been presented by famous people, powerhouses of humor. Nobody knew us, with Alex Vizorek [son compatriote et plus ancien partenaire], when we started, ten years ago, with our names lying outside. »
