Benjamin Netanyahu’s Interview on Legal Reform and Saudi Arabia: Impact on Israel-United States Relations

by time news

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the issue of legal reform in an interview with American news channel “CNN”. He expressed that the damage to Israel-United States relations is caused by how the reform is presented. Netanyahu highlighted the difference in the process of choosing judges between the two countries, stating that in the United States, judges are chosen by the parliament, whereas in Israel, there are concerns that such a change would signify the end of democracy.

During the interview, Netanyahu also spoke to the leaders of the Jewish community, claiming that the opposition had surrendered to the protest. He further commented on a judge’s extraordinary attack on Trump’s lawyer, describing it as a joke.

When asked about his stance on respecting the ruling of the High Court, Netanyahu refused to commit to it, saying that it depends on the other side as well. He expressed hope that after his recent meeting with President Biden at the White House, they now have a better understanding of his intentions regarding legal reform.

Another interview conducted on “FOX NEWS” saw Netanyahu discussing talks about potential normalization with Saudi Arabia. Concerns have been raised about Saudi Arabia’s demand for uranium enrichment on its territory. In response, Netanyahu reassured that Israel would not do anything that could endanger the country. He emphasized working together with President Biden to determine what can and cannot be done.

Netanyahu also addressed the potential difficulties that may arise for parts of his coalition during the normalization talks. He criticized his partners to some extent and stated that they joined him, rather than the other way around, highlighting a lack of understanding about how the system works. However, despite these challenges, Netanyahu expressed optimism that the normalization agreement with Saudi Arabia will not require dismantling the coalition, and that his partners will not sabotage the move.

The future of the coalition and the impending normalization talks with Saudi Arabia remain uncertain. However, Netanyahu remains confident in the prospects of a successful agreement that will not jeopardize Israel’s security.
