Minnesota’s Office of Cannabis Management Experiences Leadership Shake-Up with Departure of Erin DuPree

ST PAUL, Minn. (Valley News Live) — Erin DuPree, who was recently appointed to lead Minnesota’s Office of Cannabis Management, has abruptly stepped down from her position. DuPree, who took over the role just one day prior, did not provide a specific reason for her departure but vehemently denied any involvement in selling illegal products through her business.

In a statement, DuPree emphasized her commitment to conducting lawful business and claimed that once she became aware of any illegal items in her shop’s inventory, she promptly removed them. Recognizing that her presence might hinder the crucial work that needs to be carried out, she made the difficult decision to resign.

Governor Tim Walz initially expressed confidence in DuPree’s capabilities and welcomed her appointment, stating, “DuPree is a proven and effective leader, who will be successful in standing up Minnesota’s new adult-use cannabis market and helping Minnesotans succeed in the industry.” However, his tone changed following DuPree’s departure.

In a statement released on Friday, Governor Walz emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety, legality, and efficient regulation of the emerging cannabis market. He announced that Charlene Briner would serve as the interim leader of the Office of Cannabis Management until a permanent replacement is found.

The sudden resignation of Erin DuPree has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding her departure. While she denied any wrongdoing, the state government aims to uphold the integrity and transparency of the cannabis industry in Minnesota.
