The PSOE announced this afternoon that it has challenged the election process of the governing bodies of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) and will study legal measures upon detecting, as they claim, that the PP “has failed to comply with the organization’s statutes in the candidacies presented”.

According to a press release from the socialists, the PP has violated up to two of the articles referring to the candidacies for the Government Board and the Territorial Council, according to which no person “may present themselves in more than one candidacy.”

The PSOE has denounced that the Popular Party has violated article 31 on the composition and election of the Members of the Government Board (Chapter III) in its section 3.a, which develops the electoral system as follows: “Candidates will be presented closed that will include a maximum of twenty-two people, none of them may appear in more than one candidacy.

Thus, according to the PSOE, the preparation of the popular list also violates article 26 on the composition and election of the members of the Territorial Council (Chapter II) in its article 26.b.1: “The candidacies will be closed and will include a maximum of sixty-one people; “None of them may present themselves in more than one candidacy.”
