The president’s request was shared through his official X account, after not having attended the main tribute that took place on September 22, along with his family and other important figures who received him at the National Capitol.
“I have given instructions that during the tributes to maestro Fernando Botero, his work, the dove of peace, will accompany him. At this moment he begins his transfer to the National Capitol on the street of honor,” wrote President Petro.
And the thing is that the Casa de Nariño reported that the president canceled his entire agenda for Friday, but they did not specify precisely the reasons why he canceled it and did not attend the tribute.
But the homage to Maestro Botero was not the only place where they were waiting for the head of state.
They waited for Petro for several minutes in the Congress of the Republic, where the farewell ceremony for the painter was held, but he never appeared.
His arrival was announced by his communications team, who started a live broadcast to give way to the words he had prepared, but in the end, he did not appear.
On the president’s agenda, it was planned not only to participate in the tribute to the Paisa artist, but also to attend the P4G Summit: Transformative Alliances for Sustainability, Green Growth and Life, which would be at the Haytt Hotel in Bogotá, but he did not attend either.
In addition, he would also have a private meeting at the Casa de Nariño with the rulers of La Guajira, Magdalena, Cesar, Atlántico, Sucre, Bolívar and Córdoba. However, they were notified of the president’s absence when they were on their way to Bogotá.
Although the reasons for the sudden cancellation of Friday’s agenda are not known, it is not the first time that President Gustavo Petro has carried out this type of action without justification.
